Stairlift Reviews
Acorn Stairlifts is officially the FIRST stairlift company to earn the prestigious Ease-of-Use Commendation from the Arthritis Foundation
Acorn Stairlifts understand that our number one priority is helping our customers to maintain their independence by overcoming the difficulty with their stairs. By taking the time to speak with each person and get to know their situations and needs, we have come to know that there are many, many reasons why a person may benefit from an Acorn Stairlift.

The Ease-of-Use Program at a glance.

The Arthritis Foundation created the Ease-of-Use Commendation Program to encourage manufacturers to design user-friendly products and packaging that could be recommended to the millions of people living with arthritis.

The process begins with the manufacturer submitting a product to the Arthritis Foundation for an extensive scientific evaluation. The sole purpose of this evaluation is to determine, quite simply, how easy to use a given product is for people with arthritis. The testing process is as follows:

  • Each product is evaluated by a team of scientists, who test them against a number of "pass" or "fail" requirements, specific to the type of product under evaluation. For example, how easy is it to open a medicine bottle or to operate a stationary bike?

  • The scientists then assess and establish user tasks based on every manner in which someone with arthritis might use the product, from the point at which the product is removed from the packaging - yes, even the package itself is evaluated - through multiple uses.

  • Finally, a team of eight testers who have moderate to severe arthritis are evaluated for grip, torque and muscle strength, endurance, pinch force and range of motion. The testers get to open and use the product, and then each is interviewed by the team of scientists to gather their feedback in a real-world setting.

The testing of our stairlifts included some of the following features:
What does this mean for Acorn Stairlifts as a company?

We have always said that our Acorn Stairlifts are comfortable and easy to those points have been scientifically proven!

Currently, Acorn Stairlifts, is the ONLY stairlift manufacturer to earn the Ease-of-Use commendation. We understand that some of our competitors might try to follow suit, but we will always be able to say with confidence that we were the FIRST stairlift to earn it.

This is yet another effort that continues to prove that Acorn Stairlifts is the pioneer in the industry, always striving to stay ahead of the game, and to help our customers by providing the absolute best solution for their needs.

Which Acorn Stairlifts are covered?

Both the Acorn 120 Straight Stairlift and the Acorn 80 Curved Stairlift has had extensive testing and has received the Ease-of-Use commendation.

Acorn Stairlifts are "A major success story"

Acorn Stairlifts are one of the major success stories being highlighted in the Year of Manufacturing campaign being led by Bradford Council.

The Steeton-based manufacturer was established in 1992 and now employs more than 1,000 people worldwide but the heart of the firm, which has an annual turnover sales) of more than £80m (121,016,000.00) US Dollar, is in the Bradford district where around 500 staff work.

Company Secretary Dave Belmont said: "In only 20 years, we have grown from nothing to one of Yorkshire's top 150 companies exporting to more than 60 countries worldwide."

"More than 50 per cent of our sales are overseas. An Acorn Stairlift is installed somewhere in the world every 14 minutes."

Acorn has been at the vanguard of advances in stairlift design, safety and improving quality. It pioneered the use of DC battery power which allows stairlifts to continue working in the event of a power cut, a system which is now the industry-standard.

Last year, the company successfully launched FastTrack whereby it can install stairlifts on non-standard, curved staircases within days - in some cases the very next day.

The rail components for FastTrack are produced at Steeton where the company has installed a special manufacturing line and powder coating facility.

Councilor David Green, leader of Bradford Council, said: "Acorn Stairlifts are an excellent example of a successful Bradford-based manufacturer and exporter. During the Year of Manufacturing we want to highlight the achievements of companies like this and show just how strong the Bradford manufacturing sector is."

Stairlifts for the Elderly

Our stairlifts are designed to be used by people with varying levels of mobility.

Stairlifts are suitable for the elderly, as they're the people most likely to be suffering from Arthritis or heart conditions and other movement impairing conditions. These ailments are the ones most likely to cause people to struggle with the stairs and would greatly benefit from a stairlift. Removing the physical struggle that stairs become, means that a stairlift can change your life.

An Acorn Stairlift includes easy to use paddle controls, lockable swivel seats, safety belts and many more features that'll enable you to use your stairs in a safe controlled manner.

Easy to use paddle controls

Paddle switches on the end of each arm controls the stairlift's direction of movement. We've designed the paddles to be easy to operate, even for those with limited dexterity.

Remote controls

Two remote control handsets are available which allow you to control the stairlift whilst not on the stairs. Having a control at the top and bottom of the stairs lets the stairlift come to you, so you can be sure that you won't need to walk up your stairs.

Safety belts

All Acorn Stairlifts include a safety belt as standard, to ensure that you're safely secured into your stairlift whilst on the stairs. The safety belt is similar to lap belts found in cars, securing you by the waist.

Lockable swivel seat

The swivel seat enables the user to safely board and leave the stairlift without the need to twist the body. The seat also locks into position, so that it doesn't move when you're trying to get on and off.
